South Teton is a hard hike in Wyoming's Jedediah Smith Wilderness, within the Teton Basin Ranger District of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The route is an out-and-back of about 18.8 miles, with a total elevation gain of 3,375 feet, taking you from a low point of about 6,967 feet to a high of about 10,346 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced and open to horses. The trail is open from about June 15 to November 1, and the parking area is named South Teton. Bikes are not allowed. The Grand Wall climbing area sits just 0.1 mile away, and the Face Trail is 0.2 mile off. Teton Canyon campground is 0.3 mile away, and the North Teton hike is also 0.3 mile away.
