Fox Tail is a bouldering area in Coopers Rock State Forest in West Virginia, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with the 1st pull off, Lay Me Down Area and Dice Boulders all about 0.1 mile away. The area holds nine bouldering routes, ranging from the easy V0 "Rabbit Season" to the hard V13-14 "Project." The median grade is V5, and the hardest routes, "Project" and "Trash Panda," sit at V6+ and V13-14. The boulders are the focus here, and the routes are all listed as bouldering. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from the nearby Lake Lynn weather station show May highs around 74°F and September highs around 76°F, with September also seeing the fewest wet days of the year. That station sits about 436 feet lower than the area, so temperatures at Fox Tail run a little cooler. Hikers can find the Johnson Hollow Trail about 2 miles away, with Ken's Run Trail and Lick Run Trail a little farther out.
