Professor Boulder is a bouldering area in Coopers Rock State Forest in West Virginia, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with several other boulders and pull-offs about 0.1 mile away, including Giant's Slab Boulder, Watch your back and The High Court. The area is a bouldering destination, with five routes all rated on the V scale. The easiest are Student and Teacher's temptation at V1, and the hardest is Professor Arete at V6-7. Dr. Yang is a V3, and Crash Landing is a V5 with a first ascent by Bryant Noble. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from the nearby Lake Lynn weather station show May highs around 74°F and September highs around 76°F, with September also seeing the fewest wet days of the year. That station sits about 800 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Hikers can pair a session with Johnson Hollow Trail, about 1.7 miles away, or Ken's Run Trail and Lick Run Trail, both within about 2 miles.
