Sunset Boulder is a bouldering area in Coopers Rock State Forest in West Virginia, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. It sits among a cluster of other bouldering spots, including the 5th Pull Off (School Bus Area), School Yard and Giant's Slab Boulder, all within about a tenth of a mile. The climbing here is all bouldering, with five routes ranging from V0 to V7. The easiest are Buckets of Goodness at V0 and Sunny Personality at V2, while Sunset Arete is V5 and Pursuit of pain is V7, with Andrew Leich listed as its first ascender. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable. Typical averages from the nearby Lake Lynn weather station show May highs around 74°F and September highs around 76°F, with September also seeing the fewest wet days of the year. That station sits about 640 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Hikers can pair a session with Johnson Hollow Trail, about 1.7 miles away, or Ken's Run Trail and Lick Run Trail, both a little over 2 miles off.
