Sand Flat is a hard hike in Utah's Fishlake National Forest, within the Fremont River Ranger District, about 9.5 miles long. The trail starts at roughly 7,685 feet and climbs to about 8,391 feet, a total gain of 1,214 feet, and is an out-and-back route. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surface, with biking allowed. It stays open year-round. For timing, summer is the warmest stretch. Typical averages from the nearby Loa weather station, which sits about 1,300 feet lower, show July highs around 83°F and lows near 50°F. Winter is cold, with January highs around 40°F and lows near 10°F. The Great Western Trail - Utah lies just 0.2 miles away, and the Great Western Trail, Loa, a mountain biking route, is 0.3 miles off. The Fremont River, about 1.1 miles away, offers canoeing. For an overnight stay, Sunglow Campground is roughly 4.4 miles away.
