Pine Creek is a hard hike in the Box-Death Hollow Wilderness, part of the Escalante Ranger District of Dixie National Forest in Utah. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail lies within designated wilderness. The route is an out-and-back covering about 18 miles, with a low point at 6,419 feet and a high of 7,778 feet, and it gains about 1,380 feet in elevation one way. The most comfortable stretch for a trip is late spring and early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Boulder show May highs around 68°F and September highs around 74°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures up high run cooler. The Box Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Roundy Trail is about 0.6 mile off. For an overnight base, Posey Lake Campground is roughly 6 miles away, and Blue Spruce Campground is about 7.5 miles out.
