Hog Ranch Trail is a short, easy out-and-back hike in the Escalante Ranger District of Dixie National Forest in southern Utah, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 1.5 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 362 feet, taking you from a low point of about 8,942 feet to a high of about 9,312 feet. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Bryce Canyon put July highs around 80°F with lows near 52°F, while winter highs stay in the upper 30s. That station sits roughly 1,400 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. The Varney Griffin Trail and the Escalante Ranger District's lake fishing are both about 1.4 miles away. The Great Western Trail - Pine Creek Section, a mountain biking route, is about 2.6 miles off, and Posey Lake Campground is about 3.4 miles away.
