Posey Lookout Trail is an easy, short hike of about 1.4 miles with a one-way elevation gain of 401 feet, set in the Escalante Ranger District of Dixie National Forest in southern Utah. The trail is an out-and-back, starting at a low point of about 8,734 feet and reaching a high of about 9,161 feet. It is managed by the Forest Service and built on natural surface, and it is open from May 1 to October 31. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Bryce Canyon show July highs around 81°F and lows near 45°F, though that station sits roughly 1,600 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the hike run cooler. Winter is cold, with January highs in the mid-30s. Posey Lake Campground is about half a mile away, and the Posey Spur Trail is under a mile off. The Great Western Trail - Pine Creek Section is about 1.4 miles away for mountain bikers, and Blue Spruce Campground lies about 3.5 miles out.
