Stag Lake is a short, easy hike in Oregon's Diamond Peak Wilderness, within the Crescent Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest. The trail is about a mile long, with a total elevation gain of 97 feet, and it makes an out-and-back trip from a low point of about 5,798 feet to a high of about 5,860 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is natural-surfaced and open year-round. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.1 mile from the start, where the grade reaches about 9 percent. The trail is rated easy and takes about half an hour to complete. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Odell Lake show July and August highs around 73 to 74°F with only about three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-30s and regular snow days. Horses are allowed, and bikes are not. The closest neighbors are Pretty Lake, about 2 miles away, and Crescent Lake Campground, about 3 miles away. Fawn Lake and Odell Lake are also within a few miles.
