Fawn Lake is a hard hike of about 6.9 miles on the natural-surface trail in the Diamond Peak Wilderness, part of the Crescent Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest in Oregon. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is rated hard with a total elevation gain of 802 feet. It starts at about 4,900 feet and climbs to about 5,655 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 1.7 miles, where the grade reaches 16 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Odell Lake show July and August highs in the low to mid 70s, with only a few wet days a month. That station sits about 855 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the peak run cooler. The hike is a short drive from Crescent Lake Campground and the Crescent Lake Loop West, both within half a mile. The Metolius-Windigo Trail and Crescent Lake Guard Station are also nearby.
