Simax is an easy out-and-back hike on Forest Service land in Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, within the Crescent Ranger District. The trail is about 2.1 miles long and rises about 35 feet from a low point near 4,856 feet to a high of about 4,906 feet. The climb is gentle, with the steepest stretch at about 0.5 miles, and the trail surface is natural, making it suitable for bikes and horses. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Odell Lake show July and August highs around 73 to 74°F with only three wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the mid-30s and regular snow. The hike sits right beside Crescent Lake Campground and Crescent Lake Guard Station, both about a quarter mile away. The Crescent Lake Loop West and the Fawn Lake hike are within half a mile.
