Rainy-Kingsley is a hard hike in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, on the Hood River Ranger District, about 8 miles from the trailhead. It is a natural-surface out-and-back that gains about 700 feet in one direction, with a total round trip of roughly 1,500 feet. The climb peaks at about 3,980 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at around 3.3 miles in, where the grade reaches 20%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. At the nearby Government Camp weather station, July and August typically average highs near 70°F and lows near 48°F, with only about four wet days a month. Winter there runs much colder, with typical highs in the mid-30s and rain on more than 20 days a month. The trip takes about 3.5 hours. Rainy Lake and Black Lake campgrounds sit within about 3 miles, and Mt. Defiance is a nearby hike. The Green Point Connector Trail, a mountain biking route, is under 2 miles away.
