Pines in the Pumice is a short loop hike in the Chemult Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest in Oregon. The trail covers about a mile, with a high point of 5,153 feet and a low of 5,131 feet, and the whole trip involves a climb of just 21 feet. It's an easy walk, and the route is a flat loop rather than a steep climb, with the steepest stretch at about 0.63 miles in. The trail is on natural surface, and both bikes and horses are allowed. It is not an accessible trail. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route falls within the Chemult Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Chemult, Oregon, put July highs around 83°F with only about three wet days in the month. Winter is cold, with highs in the mid-30s and lows near 15°F. The trail is open from May 1 to October 31. The trip takes about half an hour. Nearby, Open Forest is about half a mile away, and Ties Through Time is about 1.5 miles off. The PCT Oregon Section D lies roughly 5.5 miles away, and the Cleetwood Cove Trail is about 7 miles away.
