The Meissner Snowshoe Long Loop is an easy 1.8-mile hike in Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, on the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District. It is a short outing that fits easily into a day of exploring the surrounding backcountry. The route starts at about 5,344 feet and climbs to a high point of 5,446 feet, with a total elevation gain of 292 feet. It also drops 332 feet over the course of the hike. The steepest stretch comes early, around 0.4 miles in, with a grade of about 11 percent. The trip takes roughly half an hour to complete. Winter is the natural season for snowshoeing, and the nearby Meissner Snowshoe and Manzanita cross-country ski areas sit within half a mile of the loop. For a different kind of outing, the Main Area climbing area is about 3.4 miles away, and Three Creek Lake Campground is about 9 miles out.
