Sector 16 is a Forest Service hike in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest. It is a 6.4-mile out-and-back route with a total climb of 685 feet, making it a longer walk with a steady rise from a low point of 5,444 feet to a high of 5,695 feet. The trail is rated hard. The steepest section comes at about 2.7 miles in, with a 6% grade. It is a natural-surface route, and bikes are allowed, though horses are not. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July averages at the nearby Sunriver weather station, about 11 miles away, run to highs around 84°F and lows near 41°F, while winter highs there sit in the 37 to 43°F range. That station sits roughly 1,500 feet lower than the hike's high point, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. The Tumalo Ridge Trail and Swede Ridge both start within a tenth of a mile. Climbers can head to Cougar Buttress, about 1.4 miles away, and Three Creeks Lake Campground lies about 6.8 miles off.
