Four Mile Butte is a short out-and-back hike of about 0.4 miles on natural trail in the Sisters Ranger District of Deschutes National Forest, Oregon, on Forest Service land. The route rises about 100 feet from its starting point to a high point of 4,026 feet, with the steepest stretch at around 0.07 miles in, where the grade reaches about 10%. The climb is front-loaded, so the most of the elevation gain happens early on the way up. The trail is open year-round, and a trip takes about half an hour. Bikes and horses are both allowed, so it works for a range of outings from a quick ride to a horseback ride. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sisters show July highs around 86°F with lows near 43°F, while winter highs sit in the low 40s. That station sits well below the butte, so expect temperatures up top to run cooler. Nearby, the Bluegrass Loop hike is about 0.7 miles away, and the Lower Cross District cross-country ski area is about 1.3 miles off. Cold Springs Campground is about 2.5 miles away, and Suttle Lake offers fishing at about 7.9 miles.
