Whychus Creek Metolius-Windigo is a 5.6-mile moderate hike in the Sisters Ranger District of Deschutes National Forest in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back with a total climb of about 394 feet, reaching a high point of 3,618 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 2.7 miles, with a grade of about 9 percent. The route is on natural surface, and both horses and bikes are allowed. The trail starts at an elevation of about 3,255 feet, and the low point is about 3,249 feet, so the climb is roughly balanced between the two halves of the trip. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Sisters, at a similar elevation, show July highs around 86°F and lows near 43°F, while September cools to highs around 76°F. Several other routes and climbing areas sit within a mile, including Whychus Footbridge Tie, Five Pine Connector and Brain Boulder. Whychus Creek, about 3 miles away, offers canoeing, and Cold Spring campground is about 4.4 miles off.
