Crescent Lake Loop West is a hard hike in Oregon's Deschutes National Forest, within the Crescent Ranger District. The route is an out-and-back that starts and ends at about 4,816 feet, with a high point of 5,145 feet. The total climb is 2,483 feet, and the round trip covers about 17 miles. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Odell Lake show July and August highs around 73 to 74°F, with only about three wet days a month. Winter brings highs in the mid-30s and regular snow days from December through February. The trip takes about seven hours. The trailhead sits close to Crescent Lake Campground and Crescent Lake Guard Station, both about 0.4 miles away. The Metolius-Windigo Trail and Fawn Lake are also within a third of a mile.
