Devil's Fork is a short, easy out-and-back hike in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 1.2 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 347 feet, and it starts at roughly 1,961 feet, reaching a high point of about 2,284 feet before returning to the starting level. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.45 miles in, where the grade reaches 25%. That makes the first half of the hike the most challenging, and the route is best suited to a quick outing rather than a long day on foot. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs in the upper 70s with only five or six wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the low 40s and rain on most days. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. Lily's Lane and Primrose Path are both within about a third of a mile, and the Rat Cave climbing area is about 0.7 miles away. Oneonta Creek, a paddling spot, is about 3.4 miles off.
