Auger Valley Trail is a short, easy hike in the Silver Lake Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest in southern Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about a mile long and sits at roughly 4,700 feet, with a one-way climb of about 50 feet and a round-trip total of about 125 feet. The route is an out-and-back, and the steepest stretch comes early, with a grade of about 8% at about 0.09 miles. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Silver Lake show July highs around 85°F with lows near 45°F, and September highs around 76°F with only about three wet days. That station sits a few hundred feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. The trail makes a good pairing with other outings in the area. Silver Creek Marsh campground is about 2 miles away, and the Southern Oregon Intertie Trail is about 2.5 miles off. Thompson campground and Hager Mountain Lookout are both within about 3 miles.
