Thompson Reservoir Campground is a Forest Service campground on the western shore of Thompson Reservoir, about 20 minutes south of Silver Lake, Oregon, within the Silver Lake Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest. Nineteen campsites serve both tent and RV campers, and mature ponderosa pines provide shade across the grounds. Picnic tables and fire rings are on site, and potable water is available. Three vault toilets round out the amenities. The campground sits across the reservoir from East Bay Campground, and the boat launch works well for boaters who can back their boat down the ramp into the water. Thompson Reservoir is stocked with rainbow trout annually, and the site makes a good base for fishing and boating. Fees apply for overnight stays: $6 per night for single vehicles, with a $15 fee for each additional vehicle. These are the typical overnight use charges listed for the site. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Silver Lake show July highs around 85°F with lows near 45°F, while winter brings highs in the low 40s and lows around 20°F.
