Middle Fork Campground is a Forest Service campground in the Blue Mountain Ranger District of Oregon's Malheur National Forest. It sits about 6.8 miles from the Austin 3 S weather station, and the two have similar elevations, so the station's typical averages are a fair guide to the climate at the camp. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. July and August typically reach highs around 83°F with lows in the low 40s and only about four to five wet days a month. Winter is cold, with typical January highs near 34°F and lows around 15°F. The camp has vault toilets, and a fee is charged. Deerhorn Forest Camp is about 1.3 miles away. The Middle Fork John Day River, a paddling route, is about 5.3 miles off, and the Davis Creek Trail #244 and Meadow Trail are both about 5 miles away.
