Detroit Lake State Recreation Area is a campground in Oregon, managed by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. It sits within the Detroit Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest, about 5 miles from the town of Detroit. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Detroit Dam weather station show July and August highs around 80 to 81°F, with only four or five wet days a month. That station sits about 380 feet lower than the recreation area, so temperatures here run a little cooler. Several other spots are close by. Piety Island Campground is less than a mile away, and the Piety hike starts about a mile off. Humbug Campground and the Breitenbush River, a canoeing route, are both within about 2 miles.
