Black Canyon is a Forest Service campground in Oregon's Umpqua National Forest, within the Tiller Ranger District. It sits on national forest land managed by the Forest Service, and there is no fee to stay here. The site's amenities are simple: it has vault toilets. That makes it a straightforward base for an overnight in the district, with no need for a permit or paid facilities. For timing, late spring and early fall are the most comfortable months. Typical averages from the Lost Creek Dam weather station, about 20 miles away, show May highs near 72°F and September highs near 84°F, while July and August average around 90°F with only a few wet days each month. Cover Campground is about 1.6 miles away, and Whisky Camp Guard Station is about 3.7 miles off. Paddlers can reach Jackson Creek, about 2.5 miles away, and Cougar Butte Trail is about 4.4 miles out for a hike.
