Jackson Run is a hard hike in the Athens Ranger District of Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 8 miles long, with a total climb of roughly 1,450 feet, and it is an out-and-back route that starts at an elevation of about 960 feet and reaches a high point of about 1,140 feet. The trail is natural-surface and not accessible. Bikes are allowed, but horses are not. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.1 miles in, with a grade of about 21 percent. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Newport, about 10 miles away, show May highs around 74°F and September highs around 78°F, with September also seeing the fewest wet days of the year. Ohio View is about a mile away, and Jackson Run Boulders is about 2 miles off. Archers Fork Loop is about 3 miles away, and Leith Run Campground is about 5 miles away.
