Kinderhook Pawpaw is a 1.8-mile out-and-back hike in the Athens Ranger District of Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is rated easy, with a total elevation gain of 904 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.8 miles in, where the grade reaches 19%. The route is gravel, and it is open to both horses and bikes. It is not an accessible trail. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Newport, about 1.7 miles away, show May highs around 74°F and September highs around 78°F, with September also seeing the fewest wet days of the year. The Kinderhook Long Loop and Kinderhook Campfire hikes both start within a mile.
