Green Wood Loop is a short, easy hike in the Athens Ranger District of Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 1.4 miles long and rises roughly 80 feet from a low point of about 760 feet to a high of about 858 feet. It is an out-and-back route on natural surface, and it is rated easy. Bikes are allowed, but horses are not. The trail is not accessible. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Newport put May highs around 74°F and September highs around 78°F, with September seeing the fewest wet days of the year. Greenwood Trail Boulders, a climbing area, sits about 0.4 miles away, and Leith Run Campground is about 0.6 miles off. Leith Run Gazebo Trail is also about 0.6 miles away.
