Patio Area is a bouldering area in North Carolina, about 1.4 miles from the town of Dixon. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with The Egg, Denominator and Decepticon Boulder all about 0.1 mile away. The area is a compact, close-together set of boulders rather than a long route, and it works well as a short stop for climbers already in the Dixon area. The climbing here is all bouldering, with six routes spread across the V2 to V8 range. The easiest is an unnamed V2, and the hardest is "Don't Fly From the Ground" at V8. The median grade is V4, so the area suits climbers of all levels, from those looking for a simple warm-up to those working on harder problems. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Gastonia show October highs around 74°F with lows near 51°F, and April is similar at about 74°F by day and 50°F at night. July is the hottest month, with highs averaging about 91°F. For a change from bouldering, the Ridgeline Trail is about 0.8 mile away, and the Clarks Creek Trail in South Carolina is about 2.3 miles off. Paddlers can head to South Fork Crowders Creek, roughly 6.2 miles away.
