Viewpoint Slab is a climbing area in New York's Wilcox Lake Wild Forest, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The surrounding cluster of climbing spots makes it an easy addition to a day spent on the walls here, with several other climbing areas and the Crane Mountain Path just a short distance away. The area offers a mix of traditional and sport routes, with nine routes in total. Most are in the 5.4 to 5.9 range. Trad routes include Puzzle (5.4), Viewpoint Crack (5.5) and Scenic Slip (5.7), and sport routes include Slab-Happy (5.8) and Fifty-Foot Fright Fest (5.9). The Measles Walls and Over The Measles Wall climbing areas sit right next to it, as does the Crane Mountain Path for hikers. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Indian Lake show July highs around 75°F with lows near 54°F, while winter highs there stay below freezing. The station sits a few hundred feet lower than the slab, so temperatures on the rock may run slightly cooler.
