Crane Mountain is a climbing area in New York's Wilcox Lake Wild Forest, managed by the State Department of Conservation. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with Belleview and Belleview Slab just a few tenths of a mile away, and Boulderwoods and Upper Measles Wall within half a mile. The Crane Mountain Path hike starts about half a mile off. The climbing here is mostly traditional, with 15 trad routes and one mixed route among the 17 listed. Grades run from 5.5 to 5.10a, with Caterpillar Chimney at 5.5 and Keystone at 5.10a. The sport route is the only one of that style. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical July averages from a nearby weather station run to a high of 75°F and a low of 54°F, though that station sits well below the mountain, so temperatures up high run cooler. Winter is cold, with January highs around 25°F.
