Wolf Jaw Trail is a 1.6-mile moderate hike in New York's High Peaks Wilderness, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The trail rises from about 2,166 feet to 3,498 feet, a total gain of 1,277 feet, and the steepest stretch comes within the first third of the route, where the grade reaches 38%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Placid show July highs around 74°F with lows near 54°F, and the station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the high peaks run cooler. Wedge Brook Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and Woodsfall Trail and Beaver Meadow Trail are within about a mile and a half. Climbers can head to the E: High Peaks Region climbing area, about 0.7 mile off.
