West Stoner Lake Trail is an easy out-and-back hike in New York's Ferris Lake Wild Forest, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The route is about 2.5 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 322 feet. It rises from a low point of 1,658 feet to a high of 1,815 feet, and the steepest stretch comes around mile 2.2 at about 12 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 77°F with lows near 56°F. The station sits several hundred feet below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run a little cooler. The trail makes a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area. Good Luck Cliffs Trail and the Good Luck Mountain climbing area are about 0.6 miles away, and Spectacle Lake Trail is about 0.7 miles off. Climbers can also find Lost T about 1.3 miles away.
