Long Lake Trail is a moderate 3.95-mile hike in the Ferris Lake Wild Forest in New York, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The nearest town is Arietta, about 3.3 miles away. The trail is an out-and-back, and the round trip totals about 7.9 miles with a high of roughly 1,826 feet. The climb rises about 264 feet from the starting point, and the steepest stretch comes around mile 2.7 at about 11 percent grade. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. July typically averages highs near 77°F and lows near 56°F, according to typical averages from a nearby weather station at Gloversville. That station sits several hundred feet lower, so temperatures on the trail run a bit cooler. Long Lake Crossover Trail is about 1.2 miles away, and Dexter Lake Trail and Good Luck Cliffs Trail are each about 2 miles off. Climbers can head to Good Luck Mountain, about 6 miles away.
