Loop 1 is a 1.4-mile loop hike in the Edmund Niles Huyck Preserve in New York, managed by a non-governmental organization. The trail is rated easy, with a total elevation gain of 169 feet and a total loss of 273 feet over the course of the loop. The steepest part comes at about the 1-mile mark, where the grade reaches 11 percent. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically late spring and early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Schoharie, NY, run from highs around 72°F in May to about 74°F in September, and the preserve sits roughly 1,000 feet higher than that station, so expect cooler temperatures on the trail. The route is not wheelchair accessible, and bikes and horses are not allowed. Loop 2 lies about 0.4 miles away, and the Wheeler-Watson Trail and Race Track are each about half a mile off. For time on the water, Tenmile Creek is about 4.5 miles away.
