Elk Lake - Marcy Trail is a 9.8-mile point-to-point hike in New York's High Peaks Wilderness, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The route rises from about 1,950 feet to 4,347 feet, with a total elevation gain of 3,207 feet, and is rated moderate. The climb is steep at the start, with a 27% grade at about 0.2 miles in. The trail is a long, high route, and the return is a separate descent. Plan on about five hours for the trip. Bikes and horses are not allowed. Gray Peak Trail and Skylight Trail both lie within half a mile of the route. Panther Gorge and the Van Hoevenberg Trail are about 1.3 miles away.
