Avery Road Trail is a 5.5-mile out-and-back hike in the Ferris Lake Wild Forest in New York, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The trail rises from about 1,695 feet to a high point of 1,710 feet, with a total elevation gain of 305 feet over the course of the round trip. The climb is steepest near the start, with a 20% grade at about 0.46 miles in. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Gloversville put July highs around 77°F with lows near 56°F, while winter highs stay in the 20s. The trip takes about two hours. Ayers Lake Trail lies just 0.4 miles away, and Waters Millpond Trail is about 1.1 miles off. Dexter Lake Trail and Long Lake Crossover Trail are both within about 2 miles.
