Eclipse Buttress is a climbing area in the Coyote Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest in northern New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of hiking routes, with Coyote Canyon and Encino each about 2.6 miles away. The climbing here is a single traditional route, Desert Eclipse, rated YDS 5.10. It was first climbed by Josh Gross and Noah Bigwood. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July averages from a nearby weather station run around 74°F for the high and 45°F for the low, though that station sits several hundred feet lower than the buttress, so temperatures on the climb run cooler. Winter is cold, with January highs averaging about 36°F. Nearby hiking includes the Mesa del Medio Trail (97) and the Cerro Pedernal Trail, both within about 5 miles.
