Down & Out is a 5.5-mile out-and-back hike on the Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is rated moderate, with a total elevation gain of 227 feet, and it sits at about 5,350 to 5,580 feet. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Placitas show April and October highs around 71°F, while July and August average about 91°F with more wet days. The trail is natural-surface and bikes are allowed. It is not an accessible route. Several other hikes start close by, including Mustang Alley about 0.1 mile away and Fence Line at 0.3 mile. Climbers can head to Tunnel Springs, about 3.3 miles off, or Juan Tabo Canyon, about 5.3 miles away.
