Juan Tabo Canyon is a 3.5-mile out-and-back hike in the Sandia Mountain Wilderness, part of the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in New Mexico. The trail rises from about 6,184 feet to about 6,765 feet, a climb of 573 feet, and is rated moderate. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced and open year-round. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically late spring and early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Sandia Park weather station run from highs around 73°F in May to about 77°F in September, with lows in the mid-40s. Winter is cold, with January highs near 44°F and lows around 19°F. The trail is not accessible. Bikes are allowed, so it works for riders as well as hikers. The Pinon Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Movie Trail and Sandy Arroyo are each about 0.7 mile off. Climbers can find the Juan Tabo PG climbing area roughly 0.9 mile from the canyon.
