Cedro Peak is an easy out-and-back hike in the Sandia Ranger District of Cibola National Forest in New Mexico, about a mile from the Forest Service's land boundaries. The trail is short, under a mile long, and gains about 250 feet from its low point of 7,502 feet to the high point of 7,769 feet. The route is natural-surface and open to both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. The climb is gentle, and the whole trip fits easily into a day of exploring the surrounding trails. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from the Sandia Park weather station, about 11 miles away, show May highs near 73°F and September highs near 77°F, with July and August running warmer at about 83°F. Several other trails sit within a mile, including Middle, Cedro Singletrack Trail and Delberts. Climbers can find Bouldering Cave about 1.6 miles away.
