The Black Range Crest Trail #79 is a hard hike in the Black Range Ranger District of Gila National Forest in New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. It is an out-and-back route of about 13 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 2,316 feet, taking you from a low point of about 7,391 feet to a high point of about 9,432 feet. The trail is a long, steep climb, and the high point sits well above the starting point. Plan on a full day, and expect the most demanding stretch to come in the second half of the hike. The Royal John Mine Road lies just 0.3 miles away, and the Cdt route is about 1.7 miles off. For an overnight base, Iron Creek Campground is about 5.9 miles away, and Kingston Campground is about 6.4 miles away.
