Sun Valley Regional Park (Lizard Peak) is a county-managed climbing area in Nevada, within Sun Valley Regional Park. The park's land is managed by the county, and the area is part of the park's designated land, which makes it a natural anchor for climbing in the surrounding hills. The climbing here is all bouldering, with five routes ranging from easy V0 to a harder V5-6. The routes are named Sundry, Sunny D, Sunder, Sun Dial and Sun Ra, with the last one bearing the first ascent by Trevor Livingston. The grading is on the V scale, and the boulders sit at the upper end of the park, making them a compact, straightforward objective for a day on the rock. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Reno show May highs around 72°F and October highs around 68°F, while July and August climb into the low 90s. The station sits about 95 feet lower than the boulders, so temperatures up high run slightly cooler. Other climbing is close by. Comstock Quarry is about 4 miles away, and Basque Boulders is about 4.3 miles away. For hiking, Evans Creek is about 3.8 miles off, and the Upper Evans Trail is a mountain biking route at about 3.9 miles.
