The Schoolyard is a traditional climbing area in Nevada's Rainbow Mountain Wilderness, on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Red Rock/Sloan Field Office. It sits within the wilderness, just a few tenths of a mile from the Mudterm Area, which makes it easy to pair with other nearby crags. The climbing here is all trad, with 15 routes ranging from 5.5 to 5.10 on the YDS scale. The older routes, such as School of Rock (5.5) and Schoolyard Bully (5.7), were first ascended in the 1970s, while Honcho Imposter (5.10) is a more recent addition from 2009. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 80°F and October highs around 75°F, while July averages a high of 95°F. That station sits about 866 feet lower than the crag, so temperatures at The Schoolyard run cooler. Other climbing areas close by include Lotta Balls Wall and Romper Room, both about 0.3 miles away. Hikers can reach the Sandstone Canyon Loop and Overlook Loop, roughly a mile off. Red Rock Canyon Campground, about 6 miles away, offers a place to stay overnight.
