Footnote Wall is a sport climbing area in Nevada's Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the wall sits among several other climbing areas, with Science Wall and Story Crag Main Wall each about 0.1 mile away. The climbing here is all sport, and the routes run from 5.4 to 5.10d. Jon O'Brien is the first ascender on all six of them, which are Ranting Slamp, Farmhouse, Shotgun Merit Badge, Surf Shop, Salcedo Skate and American Beauty. The hardest, American Beauty, is a 5.10d. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mt Charleston show July highs around 79°F with lows near 52°F, while winter highs sit in the mid-40s. That station sits about 776 feet lower than the wall, so temperatures on the wall run cooler.
