The Chert Locker (Bottom tier) is a sport climbing area in Nevada's Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, part of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the climbing sits within a cluster of boulders and walls that also holds Les Echoes des Choix (Top tier) and North Echo Cliff, all about 0.1 mile away. The routes here are all sport, and they run from 5.4 to 5.6 on the YDS scale. Take me to Cherts is the easiest at 5.4, and Chert Reynolds and Cherts and ladders are among the 5.6s. The area is a compact, tiered cluster of crags, with the bottom tier of the Chert Locker sitting alongside the top tier of Les Echoes des Choix. Summer is the most comfortable time to climb. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mt Charleston, about 0.6 mile away, show July highs near 79°F with lows around 52°F, while winter highs sit in the mid-40s. That station sits roughly 1,100 feet lower than the crags, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Echo Trail and Little Falls (upper) are both about 0.3 mile away, and Cathedral Rock Picnic Area is about 0.4 mile off. Fletcher View campground is about 2 miles away.
