Universal Wall - Left is a climbing area in Nevada's Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The land is managed by the Forest Service, and the area sits among a cluster of other climbing spots and hikes, including Sesame Street just 0.1 mile away and White Pine about 0.4 mile off. The climbing here is largely sport, with 12 sport routes and one trad route among the 13 listed. Grades run from 5.5 up to 5.13a, with the hardest route, Dark Matter, a sport climb at 5.13a. The first ascent of Captain Crumbowl, the trad route, was made in 1993 by Dan Briley and Jason Astuto. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. At a nearby weather station, July and August typically reach highs in the upper 70s with lows in the low 50s. That station sits well below the wall, so temperatures on the route run cooler. Several other destinations are close by. Mary Jane Falls is a hike about 0.4 mile away, and Cathedral Rock Picnic Area offers camping about 1.4 miles off. Trail Canyon is about 0.6 mile away.
