Wallman is a hard out-and-back hike in the Missoula Ranger District of Lolo National Forest in western Montana. The trail stretches about 6.6 miles, with a one-way climb of 577 feet from a low point of 3,835 feet to a high point of 4,983 feet. The Forest Service manages the surrounding land. Bikes and horses are both allowed on the natural-surface trail, so the route suits riders and pack animals as well as hikers. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Missoula run to highs around 85°F in July and August, with only about seven wet days a month. That station sits roughly 1,500 feet below the trail's high point, so expect cooler temperatures on the ridge. The Wallman Cutoff A and Snowbowl Overlook mountain biking routes lie within about a mile, and Curry Cabin Ridge is about 1.2 miles away. Climbers can head to the Northwest Region climbing area, about 8 miles off.
