Upper Glidden is an easy out-and-back hike in north-central Montana, set within the Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The trail runs about 2.3 miles, with a total elevation gain of 181 feet from a low point of 5,761 feet to a high of 5,907 feet. The route is short and gentle, which makes it a natural choice for a day that includes several other outings in the area. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the Mullan Pass weather station, about 5.5 miles away, show July and August highs near 70°F with only about six wet days a month. Winter is cold and damp, with January highs around 28°F and lows near 19°F. The hike is open from June 1 to September 30, and the trail is a natural surface that allows biking. Nearby, Evans Gulch is about 1.3 miles away and Glidden Creek about 2.1 miles. Across the line in Idaho, Upper Blossom Lake lies about 2.3 miles off, and Shoshone Park Kitchen campground is about 4.2 miles away.
