Spanish Lakes is a hard hike in Montana's Lee Metcalf Wilderness, part of the Bozeman Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 6,946 feet to 8,895 feet, a gain of 1,369 feet over roughly 6.4 miles. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is natural-surfaced and open to horses. The trip is year-round, and the trail is not open to bikes. That makes it a horseback ride as well as a foot hike, and the climb is steep enough to demand a full day. Nearby, Falls Creek and Lake Solitude are both within about 2 miles, and Camp Creek is about 2.5 miles away. Spanish Creek Cabin, about 4.3 miles off, offers a place to stay.
