Flatiron Summit is an easy, out-and-back hike in the Libby Ranger District of Kootenai National Forest in northwest Montana. The route runs about 3.4 miles, with a total elevation gain of 902 feet from the trailhead at 4,438 feet to the summit at 5,499 feet. The trail is natural-surface and open to both horses and bikes, which makes it a flexible option for riders and equestrians. The trailhead is called Flatiron Summit TH 387, and the open season runs from May 1 to November 30, so plan around those months for a trip. Several other destinations sit within a short drive. Flatiron Ridge and Rainbow Lake are both hikes about 2.2 to 2.3 miles away, and Rainbow Ridge X-C Ski offers mountain biking at a similar distance. Loon Lake Campground, roughly 5.8 miles off, is the closest campground.
